Humanity is becoming a boil that needs to be lanced. Two particular stories have demonstrated how close we are to the fall of western civilisation.
The first was about two burglars who were bored with just stealing innocent people’s possessions. They broke into a man's house and whilst taking everything he owned of value decided to add some spice and hacked the head off his blind 19 year old tortoiseshell cat. Still not feeling fulfilled they placed a pet mouse in the microwave, just to ensure maximum pain and suffering for the mouse before it died.
Next up was the story of a 74 year old man named Smart who felt he was unable to properly articulate his feelings whilst rowing with the woman he was living with at the time. So he decided to pick up "Susie" a five month old Labrador belonging to the woman’s eleven year old son and throw the puppy over the balcony where they lived. The puppy fell 100ft into a road where it was run over and killed. The boy had chosen the puppy as a birthday present from his dad who lives in Blackpool. The boy’s mother has told friends the spot where Susie died haunts them and they are being “ripped apart.”
A friend of the family has said: “They’re in pieces. The mum can’t stop crying. They are treating it as a death in the family.” Yesterday, a bunch of pink roses had been laid on the blood-caked gravel where the pup died.
A card read: “To Susie, love and miss you, God bless, love Mum and *****.”
Smart faces magistrates next week charged with causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.
Now in what circumstances is it necessary to cause suffering to an animal. WHEN. Fucking WHEN. Please tell me.
I did a search for the puppy story because I had lost the original newspaper I read it in. Their are hundreds of similar stories about animals being killed in similar evil and callous ways.
You know what, I would happily visit the local species realignment centre. If one existed. I am disgusted at the species I share DNA with. .
The horrifying fact is these incidents are demonstrable of a society that is sick and unable to verbalise its illness.
I keep coming back to a piece written by Anton Artaud. Artaud was one of the most influential figures in European theatre. He once said in a piece called Theatre and culture that
“At a time when nothing holds together in life any longer, when we must revise all our ideas about life, this painful separation is the reason why things take revenge on us, and the poetry we no longer have within us emerges on the adverse side. Hence the unprecedented number of crimes, whose pointless perversity can only be explained by our inability to master life”
We may be able to explore the pointless perversity that Artaud talks about by murdering the animals we have domesticated as pets. I am not so sure undomesticated animals will accept that fate willingly. Ironicly the first animal to take a stand against us has virually identical DNA to us.
Chimpanzees struggling to survive amid the destruction of their forest habitat are snatching and killing human babies.
At least eight children have died in the past seven years in Uganda and Tanzania after being taken by chimpanzees and a further eight have been injured. The children were found with limbs and other body parts chewed off.
Primate experts blame deforestation and human encroachment on the chimpanzees' habitat for the aggressive behaviour, but are divided on whether the animals are defending their territory or seeking a replacement food source.
Maybe planet of the apes wasnt so far fetched after all. Maybe they will get it right where we havent.
