Four days to Christmas and the weather is foul. Not that I'm going to get outside, in between monitoring the feeds from the kids, and mining the deep-cultural structure of your Northern European Winter Festival.
Seriously, whichever staff anthropologist creates these briefs needs shooting. Either that or being encouraged to do a Campbell out of the window of their ivory tower. There's only so much academic analysis I can take before I start wanting to plug the writer into the rig and keep running them through the Extreme Meteorological Conditions sim.
Yeah, and keep doing it until it feels like their 'nads are turning black and they're going to fall off. Then we'll see what they say when asked what the purpose of such festivals is!
Campbell's replacement seems to have settled in OK. I bribed one of the techs with a bottle of Bowmore to take a look at his browser history. No unhealthy obsession with cannibalism there, thank [EXPLETIVE DELETED].
Adams and I were talking the other day – the kids seem stable enough, which is good, but there's something I can't quite put my finger on. He says the variations are well within tolerance, provided you're not an expert in chaos theory.
I only ever learned enough maths to get by, do my job, but even I know that tiny fluctuations can cause cascades and ripples. We've all seen Warburg's original design briefs for Sure Heart, and the number crunching behind it. There's no denying she's a bloody genius, none at all.
I mean, [EXPLETIVE DELETED] knows how she got ethical approval for it – though honestly the times I met her in passing, even I can feel the force of will within her. That's another thing with doing the runs, y'know?
Go Down enough and you start to wonder if Jung was right – that there's some kind of interconnected, shared pool; a silver ocean in the dark and deep below which we all share. Something that's a bit spooky action at a distance – Frantzen keeps muttering about implicate order when I mention it..
I looked it up, trying to bend my head around some of David Bohm's stuff on non-locality. I don't know, my maths isn't good enough to follow it all, but...Ehh.
Like I said, little ripples – my instincts are sharper now, around people. Body language is easy to read, you know, if you stop thinking it's supposed to be a certain way. One thing the mining teaches you is that you can't fight it. Just have to let it wash over you, just experience as it is.
The Thing I mentioned before, the psychosomatic sensation? It's getting stronger, but it's more familiar now. I think that's what is making it easier to perceive. I just settle into the rig, settle into my body and everything I need is just there.
Everything comes and goes, it just happens. It's like watching water boil – bubbles everywhere, popping and arising and coming again.
Really quite beautiful. [END TRANSCRIPT]
