Marie-Louise was born in Birmingham 1980, lives and works in London. She completed her BA Honors Degree in 2009 and was awarded the SayArt 2009 Prize.
Her work explores female identity, the conflict of desires, lust, fear, longing and internal, instinctive drives. It reverberates from the past and revisits the fairytale world of childhood magical thinking, personifying subconscious ideas and feelings that have been repressed and are reawakened in later life. Powerful and symbolic, the works are often born out of personal experience and are created as a result of words often being too banal and limited in their expression to communicate something so deeply rooted. Presented in a variety of media (sculpture, installation, and drawing) the shapes her pieces take are often viewed to have a sense of sexuality to them. They can be perceived to be charged between innocence and sexuality and the interplay between the two.
