Over the following weeks we'll be exploring the Open Source Myth of Terra:Extremitas in various ways. We aim to enable direct experience of the current before you even arrive at the BulkHead.
Today we begin profiling the Artists, Performers, Musicians and visionaries of TERRA:EXTREMITAS.
Reinhard Schleining worked on the first TERRA. I dont think anyone other than Reinhard is capable of handling the publicity material of a TERRA Meta Event.
Originally born in Vienna, Austria, Reinhard has been living and working in London since 1999. Coming from a background in psychology, art and art history, he worked as a Journalist and Illustrator before going back to study. Graduating with a Masters in Media Art. He's subsequently been working as a Designer, Animator and Art teacher, whilst pursuing his writing and drawing. Reinhard discusses his work below:
"When I try to summon up what I’m doing then I feel that I’m essentially producing CODE with my work, carefully crafted to be read and understood by as many people as possible. Before the code becomes visual I usually write it down first. Sometimes the medium I choose is the comic, but I love to indulge in the actual freedom to float between both cornerstones of my work: WRITING & DRAWING.
In an attempt to pinpoint what subject matter interests me, then I think I’d have to say it’s all about PEOPLE. Following some deeply ingrained dream about freedom and love whilst at the same time also being determined to cut down to the core genetic ‘truth’ inside of ourselves I’m a great deal looking at the world through the lens of humanistic psychology (systemic analysis, neuro linguistic programming, psychological astrology). I love to boundlessly delve into the beauty of life and come up with the trophies of what I see, the stories, the images, but at the same time I’m also extremely fascinated by the dark side of the reality we live in.The behind-the-scene workings of fate, the political aspects of relationships, the pointlessness of human suffering and the ridiculous power struggles which rock our planet, essentially just perpetuating the so called ‘cycle of abuse’. HUMOUR is also a very important element of my work."
"It's very exciting that we meet again, after about a year or so, and although the framework of our collaboration is pretty similar to last time (myself contributing with a sort of key visual to FoolishPeople's large, ambitious and beautiful meta-event), we have grown quite a bit since then I feel. A lot of things have changed in the world (Pluto, Capricorn, etc) and I suppose we have a better understanding of the bigger picture. With this boost of confidence we can push the TERRA current, on only it's second installment, to a completely new level – bigger, better, deeper, further – and I'm very much looking forward to the whole five days of the Amsterdam 'Happening', (to use an appropriate expression from 60's austrian actionism)!"
