The future for the Compact Disc is looking bleak. I won’t be unhappy to see it go. I made the move to Mp3 two years ago and I’m now on AA. Neh nah neh na na. For once my geek tendency to early adopt new technology has paid off. (Just don’t mention my UK Tivo)
The CD for me is now just a delivery tool to allow me to put the music I buy onto my power book and then onto my ipod.
All you hear in the press is music industry type’s bemoaning the fact that peer to peer file sharing is destroying music. Well maybe if you hadn’t been so fucking greedy then you might be in a better situation. I mean just how many homes, whores and smack do you and your artists need anyway.
If the music industry had listened and thought for a second they should have embraced the mp3 evolution and tackled it head on. If they had used their initiative and had used a customer driven business model instead of a greed greed greed model then maybe they could have stopped the decrease in revenues by seriously looking at new ways to deliver music to the public. The reason that the itunes store is so successful is because it’s run by a company that is world renowned for putting customers need first.
In the UK we have had to pay up to £17 in the past for a single CD about $28.00. Which is just ridiculous.
The irony of the situation is that Vinyl may still outlive the compact disc.
